The Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge
The following message has been received from Colin Robinson (President) of The Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge
This is by way of an introduction to The Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge – now in its 20th year. We meet, most Tuesday evenings, for dinner and business, at The Carpenters Arms in Stanton Wick.
I have taken the liberty of attaching a copy of our latest newsletter, to give you an idea of our work, both in the local community and internationally.
Over the past 20 years we have achieved a lot; working locally with charities, schools, giving help and assistance wherever it is required or requested. No request for help is too small and we are not daunted by larger long-term projects (local, national and international), for example the eradication of polio worldwide.
Rotary International is a volunteer service organization of 1.2 million men and women. It made a commitment to immunize the world’s children against polio in 1985. To date, Rotary has contributed nearly £350 million to the eradication effort, an amount that will grow to more than £425 million by the time the world is certified polio-free. http://www.rotary.org/en/EndPolio/Pages/ridefault.aspx
The service work we do is both worthwhile and satisfying. The project listed above could just as easily have been a local project, of benefit to people who live and work in our area.
Whilst endeavoring to ‘do some good in the world’ we also participate in a large number of social activities and these are both fun and immensely rewarding. Many new friends have been made locally, nationally and in some cases internationally.
Most importantly – if you have a project, an idea, a charity or any other worthwhile cause which needs support or assistance, no matter how small, then please let us know – we are there to help and assist everybody in our community.
If you would like to help or come along to one of our many events, or find out more about your local rotary club, then please get in touch with myself, colin@chelwood-rotary.com or our secretary, Jerry Coles, jerrycoles@talktalk.net .
Thank you
