LITTERING IS ANTI-SOCIAL
Publow with Pensford Parish Council provides public litter bins in busy areas throughout the parish for residents and visitors to dispose of their general litter. The current locations of the Parish Council’s bins are shown below.
Bath and North East Somerset council has withdrawn from providing new public litter bins in our Parish but they do empty any bins they have installed in the past.
Litter is anything from a soft drink container, sweet paper or cigarette end to a whole bag of rubbish. If there is no nearby bin, or a bin is full; take your litter home. If the bin is full please report this without delay, using the contact details marked on the bin.
DROPPING LITTER IS A CRIME
We all need to take pride in the appearance of our Parish. People who drop litter or those who don’t clean up after their dogs have an adverse impact on the quality of life for their neighbours and on the entire community.
MISUSE OF PUBLIC LITTER BINS
Misuse of public litter bins constitutes fly-tipping, (which is the illegal disposal of rubbish on public or private land).
Anyone found depositing domestic or household waste in the public litter bins could be issued with a fixed penalty notice for littering or even prosecuted for fly-tipping. The Parish Council has no legal power to dispose of household waste, recycling or garden waste. Household waste and recycling bins provided by Bath and North East Somerset council should be used to dispose of domestic waste. This is taken away as part of a roadside collection programme. Collection dates are available on the waste collection calendar.
DOG FOULING IS ANTI-SOCIAL
The Parish Council provides dog poo bins in busy areas throughout the parish. Please use them or take the poo home with you. Owners are responsible for their own dogs. It is illegal to fail to pick up the mess after a dog, under your control, has fouled in a public place.
EXCESS WASTE
If any resident has excess household waste that does not fit into a household bin that they wish to dispose of, it can be bagged and taken to a recycling centre or stored securely on their own premises until their next collection day. It must not be placed in any public litter bin or dog bin.
PENALTIES
Bath and North East Somerset council can fine people for dumping bags of rubbish in, or around, public litter bins instead of using their household bins.
Offenders caught fly-tipping or disposing of bags of household or business rubbish next to public bins risk receiving fixed penalty notices, cautions, legal action, court action, unlimited fines, or imprisonment.
