Changes to Mobile Library Service

There are changes coming to our mobile library service.

For Pensford the day of the week remains the same but there is a change to the rota. The time of day has changed to the morning to try to attract more usage. The Hillcrest stop is deleted due to low footfall.

Service dates for the village are Tuesday 24^th May (current timetable) then Tuesday 14^th June (new timetable).

This leaflet provides more details including a full timetable and details of the “Library at Home “service, which is for residents who may have mobility issues.

For information our nearest libraries are Bishop Sutton Community Library and Keynsham Library and Information Centre.

Big Pensford Tennis Weekend – Open Day

Come along to the Big Pensford Tennis Weekend on Sunday 22nd May. Join in the fun at Pensford Tennis Club on the Pensford Memorial Hall Playing Fields, Publow Lane, Pensford, Bristol BS39 4HW

Pensford Tennis Club is holding an Open Day to mark the start of season. No need to be a member – everyone welcome to join in – just come along from 10am to 1PM. Equipment will be provided. Free parking available.

Pensford Jubilee Tree Planting

Publow with Pensford Parish Council has planted a tree on the village green to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022, to honour of her leadership of our nation and to leave a legacy to benefit future generations.

Now that our planting is complete, volunteers will be taking care of our tree to give it the best chance of flourishing.

Pensford Rail History – New Photographs

Roger took this picture when he was just 14 on 31st October 1959, the last day of passenger trains. Rushing to get the picture he caught his trousers on the barbed wire fence you can see, and ripped them badly, getting into trouble when he got home. Goods trains, mostly coal, continued until 1964, with the occasional special running for enthusiasts when it finally closed a few days after the Great Flood in July 1968. Pensford Rail History

A new photograph has been added to our Pensford Rail History page.

Staff of Pensford Station, probably in the early1930’s. It is believed that at one time there were 17 staff who worked on the station. This photograph was contributed by Gerald Penney who was born in 1942 and brought up here. His father Jesse Penney, is on the left, but we do not have names for the others. Please let us know if you can identify any.

Sale of Paintings and Drawings by Robert Bailey generates nearly £1,100

WHAT AN AMAZING RESULT

The memory and talent of the late Robert Bailey, who was Pensford-born and bred, lives on. Members of the Pensford Local History Group had a very successful stall at the Christmas Church Market at All Saints’ in Publow on Saturday 4^th December 2021.

From over 150 paintings and drawings, on behalf of Robert’s family, they sold nearly 50% and, in doing so, generated an incredible £1,091. These proceeds have been kindly donated by Robert’s son Bill (and his siblings) and split between All Saints’ Church and the Pensford Local History Group.

The fact that many of Robert’s works of art now grace so many homes in Pensford and further afield is a wonderful testament to Robert and thanks go to everyone who purchased from us.

Results of Parish Consultation

The Parish Council were delighted that so many residents took part in the village consultation. The results will be discussed at the next Parish Council meeting on Monday 13^th December when we will agree the next step for implementing the most popular project.

Following the count, the projects have been placed in order of popularity:

Additional Car Parking

This was an extremely useful exercise for the Parish Council which has helped us to understand residents’ priorities in the Parish. Members of public are always welcome to attend Parish Council meetings which take place in the Village Hall at 7pm on the 2^nd Monday of the Month. A public participation session takes part at the start of each meeting and residents can register to speak for a maximum of three minutes by emailing clerk@publow-with-pensford-pc.gov.uk
