Funding to Help Households Reduce Their Energy Bills

The Bright Green Homes initiative spans across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset local authority areas.

This fund has helped hundreds of local households reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions through a range of low-carbon technologies including insulation, heat pumps and solar panels.

The project is due to be completed by March 2025, however funding is limited and demand is high.

Households must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Use Electric, Oil, LPG or Solid Fuel heating
• Energy Performance Certificate rating of G, F, E or D,
• Live within the council areas of Bristol City Council, Bath and North East Somerset or North Somerset
• Annual household income of £31,000 or lower.

Residents must complete the registration questionnaire via the Bristol City Leap website here.

New Table Tennis Table on Pensford Sportsground

The village now has an outdoor table tennis table available to all on Pensford’s playing fields.

This has been organised by the Parish Council and paid for from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

Road Closures: Peats Hill, Publow / Publow Lane, Woollard

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES

In pursuance of Section 14(2)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984:

BATH AND NORTH EAST SOMERSET COUNCIL HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that on 29^th August 2023, Peats Hill, Publow and Publow Lane, Woollard shall be closed to all traffic, in the interests of public safety, to enable Bristol Water to repair leak on ferrule.

The road will be closed at Peats Hill, Publow opposite the property known as Woodleigh extending east to a point outside 184 Publow Lane, Woollard, but the closure shall not apply to any vehicle associated with the works.

Alternative Route: Peats Hill (remainder) – Publow Lane – High Street – A37 – A368 – Hunstrete Lane – Vice versa

The closure and diversion will be clearly indicated by traffic signs. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses where possible, although delays are likely due to the nature of the works.

These works will commence on 29^th August 2023 and the road closure is anticipated to be required for 2 days. This Notice will have a maximum duration of 2 days.

Pensford Local History Group’s programme of talks for Autumn 2023

We are pleased to announce that the Pensford Local History Group has scheduled two very interesting talks for Autumn 2023. We trust these will be of interest to you and we really hope you will be able to join us. Both meetings will start at 7:30pm and will last roughly one hour and will be held at Pensford Memorial Hall, Publow Lane, Pensford, BS39 4HW. The cost will be £3.00 per person and refreshments will be included. There is no need to book.

Monday 2^nd October – “Glimmers of Light” – A journey back to the world of the Magic Lantern: Today, screens dominate our lives. Tiny pixels of coloured light build pictures of our world. We grew up with television and the cinema but, back before these major cultural influences, back before your parents’ and grandparents’ time, there was a form of screen entertainment that captivated, enthralled, and inspired audiences… “The Magic Lantern Show”. Martin Elsbury will be coming to tell us all about this very interesting relic of bygone days.

Monday 6^th November – Lord’s Wood in Pensford: We all have Lord’s Wood practically on our doorstep but how many of us know the full story? Andrew Hillman will enlighten everyone about the flora and fauna, the management practices, the challenges faced and the many highlights the woods bring.

Open Invitation to Workshop on Past, Present and Future Flood Risk on the River Chew

Date and Time: Saturday, 30^th September 2023 10:00 – 16:00

Location: Pensford Memorial Hall, 10 Publow Lane, Pensford, BS39 4HW

The University of Bath, in collaboration with the Pensford Local History Group, would like to invite all members of the local community to this event to discuss the past, present and future flood risk of the River Chew, focusing primarily on the July 1968 flood.

The workshop will comprise a combination of talks from academics at the University of Bath and the University of Greenwich on the nature of the 1968 flood, followed by round table discussions facilitated by both academics and local residents. It will also be an opportunity for you to share your memories, knowledge and photos of past flooding events to help improve our shared understanding of flood risk.

The event is scheduled for Saturday 30^th September in the Memorial Hall in Pensford. We plan to have two identical sessions, morning and early afternoon, hoping that everyone interested can find a time that will be most suited.

In addition to talks by academics, there will be an interactive exhibition on water and flooding aimed at a younger audience and an opportunity to ask questions of experts in water science.
