There are a large number of footpaths (public rights of way) running through our Parish and we encourage everyone to use them. Publow with Pensford Parish Council does not have a general duty to maintain all public rights of way. The main responsibility rests with the highway authority which is Bath and North East Somerset Council. However, we do have powers to help maintain and improve them and we collaborate with the highways authority, which has the primary responsibility for maintenance.
The Parish Council has chosen take on certain tasks related to the public rights of way, and we play a crucial role in keeping them open and accessible. We employ a part-time Footpaths Officer and Anthony (Frank) Scholfield has recently been appointed to fill this role.
Frank has been out and about over the past few weeks with his strimmer doing essential work to clear the footpaths and make them passable for ramblers and dog walkers during the summer months. Clearing the footpaths is a never-ending task, especially during damp weather when the undergrowth grows very quickly. We very much appreciate the work Frank has been doing and we would like to share a few examples here.
